Leptospermum Citratum Lemon Scented Tea Tree is native Australian tea tree variety commonly cultivated as either a hardy landscaping plant, or a source of essential oils; by crushing the leaves, a strong citrus aroma is immediately released.
A small bushy tree that naturally occurs near sclerophyll forest or rainforest, on sandy or rocky escarpments, on the east coast of Australia. The essential oil of lemon scented Tea Tree is produced by steam distillation of the leaves. As its name would suggest, the oil has a strong and fresh lemon scent, which is linked to its main constituent being citronellal & citral.
Lemon Scented Tea-Tree is a dense multi-stemmed evergreen tree with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its relatively fine texture sets it apart from other landscape plants with less refined foliage.
Will do best in full sun to partial shade. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist growing conditions, but will not tolerate any standing water. Drought tolerant.
Lemon-scented teatree is well known as a garden plant, popular for its scent and attractiveness. It is fast growing and can be kept to shrub height by pruning. The ability to be pruned regularly also makes it well-suited for hedges, windbreaks and harvesting for distilled essential oil
Bush Food: The leaves are gathered from the wild for use as a medicine and a tea and to extract an essential oil. A slightly sharper, spicier lemon flavour than the Lemon Myrtle, with an amazing aroma of lemon and eucalyptus, goes great with seafoods, broths and for use in baking.
Bush medicine: Lemon tea tree oil is 70 to 80 percent citral. The essential oil from L. petersonii inhibits the pathological fungi Candida albicans and Aspergillus fumigatus.
Lemon-scented Tea Tree is said to have antiseptic, antimicrobial, carminative and sedative properties and can be used in aromatic blends for the oil burner to combat coughs and colds. It is also successfully used as a powerful insect repellent.
Lemon-scented Tea Tree can be used in Massage and Bath Oil blends for its sedative and uplifting benefits.
Anti-inflammatory properties help with clearing up rashes, acne, and some allergic reactions.
