An evergreen tree growing to 6m, the seed pods can be up to 18cm long.
Native to South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania, var. retinodes occurrs on hillsides or along watercourses inland.
Tolerate Clay soils and poor drainage. Part to full sun. Flowers are cream-yellow balls in winter and spring. generally seeds are collected in Jan, Feb and March.
Attracts birds, butterflies and insects to the garden.
Bush food: Roasted ground wattle seed has a diverse number of uses in the kitchen. Wirilda is a very tasty variety.
Germination: From scarified seed or boiling water treatment.
