SANDPLAIN WOODY PEAR (Xylomelum angustifolium) Seeds

Xylomelum angustifolium, commonly known as the sandplain woody pear, is an endemic tree species in the Proteaceae family native to Western Australia. It typically reaches a height of 2 to 7 metres, although specimens of up to 10m have been recorded, an easy to grow waterwise, drought-hardy plant.

The name Xylomelum comes from the Greek words xylon (wood) and melon (apple or fruit). Angustifolium means narrowleaf.

The Nanda people considered the woody pear a staple food.

Bush Food: The seeds are delicious when eaten raw or roasted after the fruit dries out and the winged seed pod falls out. 

Other Uses: The woody fruits are picked for the cut flower industry. 

Germination: Pre-Treatment:  Pour hot water over the seeds + soak 24 h
Sow all year round > Autumn/Spring preferred, cover only slightly with substrate, Coir or sowing mix + sand or perlite
